Atty Jb Batiancila shared photos of an unknown elderly woman reading her bible intently in the Philippines. The image has gone viral simply because of the refreshing capture of a woman deep in her word. She lives in a “Kubo”—a small hut—but is still honoring God humbly by studying His word wherever she can.
Atty explained that the old woman’s home does not have electricity. She has to read the word outdoors by daylight. Batiancila shared that the women reminded her of her own grandmother who was poor in possessions, but rich in spirit.
Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” As believers, we can use the word of God to guide us throughout our lives. The one thing that remains at the end of this life is God’s word. “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever,” Isaiah 40:8.
We can be encouraged by this to be lovers of the word of God. No matter if we are rich or poor, God’s word is our peace and portion. Let us follow her example and be students of the word of God whenever and wherever we can.
